The new Internaat will have three purposes: it will function as a members’ lounge, an (informal) study area and in the afternoon the Internaat can be used as a bar. The Internaat will cover about 83 m2, which is about the same size as our current room in the IPO-building (only the Internaat).
Although we could try to recreate the Internaat as we currently have it, this rehousing also offers opportunities to innovate and make some changes. For example, we want different kinds of furniture which can be used for multiple purposes, e.g. studying and during drinks. This would limit the amount of redesigning needed to prepare the Internaat for the Thursday-drinks.
The bar itself will be completely new. In collaboration with the BorrelCie, the HousCie started with the new design at the beginning of December 2015. As we are planning to stay in Atlas for a decent amount of years, we want to build a bar that stays with us for that time. During our years in the Paviljoen and IPO, we have created our own culture of having a lot of special beers and being very open to all students that want to attend our drinks. Our experience from these years will help us to create a bar that suits this culture and might even lead to creating something better.
Our neighbours (Industria) will have their bar next to ours. To have the opportunity to organize a big drink together (such as an inauguration-drink), it was decided to build our bars with their backs to each other and split the room with flexible walls (like Simon Stevin/Protagoras). This allows us to combine the two rooms, if this would be needed. Intermate and Industria will also share a small storage room (about 10 m2) to maximize the available amount of space.
Storage
Behind the bar, there will be a shared room with Industria. This room will contain a fridge and a freezer, as well as a sink, a microwave and space for storage. Furthermore, a roller container for beer crates will fit in the room. The rest of the beer supply will be stored in the basement of Atlas, which can easily be reached by elevator. At the board room on the second floor, there will be additional space for storage, as there will be multiple lockable closets.
